Overview

The objective is to design a Japanese Language App with more functionality and flexibility in learning than the existing language apps that I have used.

The general consensus among interviewees are that, they want a “word search” function which explains the meaning/s and usage/s in the app itself without having to google it.

Due to the time constraint of the short course, I focus on this aspect where the user will use the "word search" function to search for the Japanese word "chotto", as an example.

Conclusion

I learn the importance of wire framing where the low fidelity serves to ensure the users are satisfied with the process flow and knows how to navigate through with ease.

Once the iterations are done and the process is clear, the focus of the high fidelity is the visual design to give the user an aesthetically pleasing experience in using the app.

The visual design is challenging as I tried to give a unique Japanese themed design that is not too elaborate and not too generic by using the right colours, fonts and illustrations.

You may try the prototype here on InVision and search for the Japanese word "Chotto" or view the clip of the process flow here.
